Concrete sleeve anchors can be used in concrete, or block but their holding values are less in terms of shear and pullout values.

8/10/2014 · Then I stumbled upon the Tapcon heavy duty anchors. The data sheets spec these things out (tensile and shear) at higher strength than the similar-sized drop-in wedge anchors. These seem like a good fit for me, as some of the holes are going to be relatively (2-3") close to the edge of the concrete, and if I don't have to put a wedge that close to the edge, I'd feel better.

I used 2 1/4" Tapcon screw but it anchored the junction boxes for that turret box. I Used 4 in those boxes and it was stiff.

12/12/2008 · If you're getting a good grip with the tapcons then those should work for you. We had an issue with the tapcons because we were putting them into hollow cinder block, and the cinder block would just disintegrate and the tapcons wouldn't hold. So we used beefy sleeve anchors. But it sounds like your concrete is pretty solid!

It is important to know that the concrete anchor diameter and diameter of hole sizes do not match up. A 1/2" concrete wedge anchor will not through a 1/2" hole in a fixture. The threaded part of the anchor will fit through the 1/2" hole but not the working end.
(AKA wedge-heads, Redheads, quick-bolts, etc.) If the CMUs at the fastener location are hollow, screw-type concrete anchors (AKA Tapcons) are technically allowable, but their strength is drastically reduced vs. fully-grouted block, so you’d likely end up needing a lot of them.
